The second low-cost carrier terminal in Malaysia, the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) Terminal Two in Sabah commenced operations on 1 January 2007 coinciding with the start of Visit Malaysia Year 2007.


The terminal can accommodate up to three million passengers annually. It can handle 1,200 passengers per peak hour. There are 26 check-in counters for international and domestic flights and six aircraft parking bays for B737 and A320 aircraft. A total of 13 immigration counters, seven for departure and six for arrival are in place. There are also seven luggage x-ray machines and three baggage carousels each measuring 70m long capable of handling 1,200 bags per hour.

There are duty free and retail outlets. And also outlets selling food and beverages.

Available also Dried & Frozen Seafood Shop at  LCCT Terminal 2 of Kota Kinabalu International Airport. Dried Shark Fin Rm 750 per 250 gm. Fish maw Rm 28 per 150 gm

Local airlines operating at the airport are Malaysia Airlines and AirAsia. Other airlines include Seaga Air, Philippine Airlines, Royal Brunei, Sabah Air, Cathay Pacific, Dragon Air, Garuda Airlines, Transmile Air and Singapore Airlines.

Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC)

Asia Delight Cafe serves local food and selection of pasta and Western food.

And there is Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), both restaurants are located on the 1st floor, along with a internet access centre, a convenience store, and book store.

KFC fast food chain is the most popular fast food chain in Sabah. One will find KFC in every shopping centre, and just about every major town in Sabah.

Air Asia’s office is also located on the first floor.

A one-stop tourism information centre (above photo right) at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport’s (KKIA) Terminal 2. This one-stop centre provide information on tourism sights and sites, accommodation and transportation.

The information centre is manned by knowledgeable personnel assigned to disseminate the required particulars to tourists. This information centre at Terminal Two is being used extensively by tourists.

KKIA T2 can handle 1,200 passengers at any one time during the peak period. The floor size at level one is 10,307 square meters while level two, 3,200 square meters, providing sufficient comfort space for all passengers. Also available are 750 public seating and 500 trolleys for use by passengers.

Ground Floor


The check-in counters are in centre of the building, and flight check-in information is easy to see. Air Asia's express boarding gives less of a hassle especially for family with children.

Ground floors are  convenience store, tit-bit snack store and a perfumes shop

A shop sells frozen seafood, where seafood are pack for baggage. Sabah is famous for fresh seafood, and even the frozen variety is recently caught.

First timer to Kota Kinabalu (KK) can find the information counter easily when exit from the arrival hall. Information on everything from where to stay, how to get there, and where to go is available.

Transportation is readily available.


 

Global Upline Sdn Bhd (http://www.globalupline.com) was awarded the contract to upgrade Terminal in 36 months but they managed to complete work in just seven months.

AirAsia, Fly Asian Express (FAX) and Transmile are using this new low cost terminal. It is estimated that between 1.6 million and 1.8 people would visit Sabah via Terminal Two in 2008.

This new Terminal Two underlines the efforts by Sabah government and MAB to further improve air travel experience in Sabah.

The new Terminal Two building has 26 check-in counters for international and domestic flights, six aircraft parking bays capable of accommodating B737 and A320 aircrafts.

The terminal also has seven luggage x-ray machines, 13 immigration counters and three 70-metre long baggage carousels, each with the capacity to handle 1,200 bags per hour.

Kota Kinabalu International Airport (Terminal 1 and 2 )is the second busiest airport in Malaysia.

Terminal 2 completed renovation in 2007 and has most amenities you need in a modern terminal.
There are 10,307 square meters of floor size at level one and 3,200 square meters at level two and 750 public seats and 500 trolleys for passenger use. The terminal houses two duty-free shops, four retail outlets and four food and beverage outlets. Parking spaces for 176 cars are available.

Foods and price :

There are 4 food and beverage outlets. Lasi Lemak for example is Rm 9.90. Mike Tea is Rm. 2.90. A bottle of SPRITZER drinking water 1500ml is Rm 3.70.

The construction of the KKIA Terminal Two is part of a massive makeover of the airport which includes the upgrading of the main terminal and runway extension and the construction of a new air traffic control tower. The KKIA is currently the second busiest airport in Malaysia after KLIA with more than 4.01 million passenger movements recorded in 2006.

At present, the airlines using KKIA Terminal Two are Air Asia, Fly Asian Express (FAX) and Transmile. Further extension to this terminal will depend on the growth of the airlines mentioned and their traffic volume.

Most Malaysian today choose to fly with AirAsia because of Low fares and new airplanes.

The main operator of Terminal 2 KKIA is Air Asia with some other low cost air carriers that fly into T2.

MAB had already requested the relevant parties to provide shuttle service for passengers who needed to go to Terminal One to continue their journeys.

Taxi
A taxi fare coupon can be bought at the Taxi Coupon Counter. The fare from Airport to city centre is around  RM20, while to Damai is RM47.50 and to UNIMAS is RM32.50 one way.

The fare is increased 50% after midnight.
 

TAXI  Transportation To/ from the Airport :


Taxis are available from the airport and cost about RM20.00 to Kota Kinabalu city center. Taxi coupons can be purchased from the Airport Taxi counter.

From airport to Inanam Bus Terminal is Rm 30.00
