The new Sarawak International Medical Centre (SIMC) supposed to start operational in 2008.

SIMC promises to offer locals a top class cardiac unit and is designed to meet the demands of a highly specialized modern health care facility equipped with the latest in medical equipment and information technology applications.

The project was contracted by Austria-based Vamed Engineering GMBH and Co KG and Sesco Engineering Sdn Bhd.

Vamed is a multi-national specialist hospital and also a healthcare contracting and service provider based in Vienna, Austria.

Vamed also projects provider for the National Heart Institute (IJN), Sungai Buluh Hospital and the Prince Court Medical Centre.

SIMC will operate as the sister facility to Normah Medical Specialist Centre but will provide broader range of treatments and services specializing in heart disease, kidney disease and cancer.

SIMC gives the highest standard and most modern medical facility and healthcare in Sarawak.

SIMC features a 3-storey medical block, an 8-storey ward tower that accommodates 200 beds, a 200-seat auditorium, 3 centres of excellence for treatment of cancer, heart and kidney diseases, 3 specialist outpatient clinics, 7 operating theatres (including a dedicated cardiac catheterization lab), a sophisticated imaging department, and modern laboratory and other supporting services.

Within walking distance to the new Sarawak International Medical Centre (SIMC) is the Midway Crescent Garden.

Midway Crescent Garden is a mixed 30-acre development project  along the busy Stutong-Samarahan Expressway in Kota Samarahan.

The site enjoys easy access to Kuching city via Stutong and Tabuan Jaya townships.
Midway Crescent is the ideal working or studying base in Kota Samarahan - Sarawak's latest research and development centre.

The History of Sarawak International Medical Centre (SIMC)

In 1994 the Sarawak state government commissioned USA's Mayo clinic to assess the feasibility of an international medical centre in Kuching.

The 2 years study revealed in 1996 that “… the timing and opportunity are right for such a medical centre. Among the findings was that there exists a large and unfulfilled need for specialty need and subspecialty medicare”.

Based on that recommendation, the project was approved by Sarawak government.

The project was launched in 1998 and expected to be completed within three years of the launch.
