2006 The year of DOG

After a rather tumultuous year, the Year of the Rooster will draw to a close at the same time that the Year of the Dog will be ushered in on 29 January 2006. The primary element of the year 2006 is Fire, making 2006 the Year of the Fire Dog. The last time the Year of the Fire Dog occurred was in 1946.

The element of Fire in the charts, combined with the loyal nature of the Dog, will bring about a year of greater emphasis on the Dog's natural areas of focus. In particular, the year will have an increased emphasis on the conservation and defense of home, land and property. Those who have extensive interests in these areas would do well with a conservative approach aimed at retaining these assets and avoiding unnecessary risk. In short -- play it safe and minimize speculative investments.

Those who aim at acquiring property will find that the year of DOG offers many opportunities through friends and contacts to get your dream home. In addition, humanitarian and environmental concerns will play a major part in the year, and a donation to a charity on your part may bring about unprecedented opportunities.

Career-wise opportunities will be gained through networking and social connections, with possibilities for a promotion or a transfer at the ending half of the year.

On the home front, the year will offer both a busy domestic and social life, with possible new additions to the family as well as opportunities for romance in die middle to ending half of the year. Career demands may sap time away from friends and family, but equal emphasis must be given here; don't neglect your home and social life at the expense of work! If for nothing else, remember that the very opportunity you need may just come from someone close to you!

FENG SHUI writer Lillian Too was in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah in October 2006 to promote her latest book first printed in August 2006. Get Rich With Water is an expanded and improved edition of her first book on Water Feng Shui published in 1995-96, over ten years ago. This book may be suitable for feng shui believing Taoists, Buddhists, atheists. New Age liberals, and agnostic feng shui enthusiasts or learners.

Lillian has repeatedly told her students that learning the theory of feng shui is the easy part. Knowing the formulas may be a simple matter.

It is the correct application of feng shui that is the more challenging dimension of the practice.

To be good at application, practice is much needed. This book is to be used to loam the methods and to understand how to apply these methods.

It may not be suitable for those whose religion does not condone idolatry for the author advocates placement of items and idols in some aspects of feng shui geomancy which may not be acceptable by some followers of monotheistic religions.

Lillian is the president of the Buddhist Meditation Centre that is an associate of the Mahayana Tradition (FPMT) whose spiritual director is Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpache. The growth of the Tibetan Buddhist creed in Sabah is also notable. In Chapter 7, Lillian has a special page for Buddhists, specifically followers of Tibetan Buddhism on the Jhambala (wealth Buddha) that is also spelled Dzambala, on how to set up a Jhambala Waterfall. Those who wish to do this Wealth Buddha practice can also consult Losang Dragpa Buddhist Society at No. 1, Jalan 17/21F in Section 17 of Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

Feng shui literally means 'wind water' so water makes up half of feng shui practice. Lillian writes that water in feng shui represents livelihood and wealth, it signifies incomes that flow into households as well as assets that are accumulated over time.

There is happy water - clean, flowing water that brings good fortune, and there is unhappy water which brings stagnation, blockages, misfortune and loss.

Water is the life blood of the environment. Without water there is no life and the world becomes arid, extremely dry and very yin. When there is water, life exists, plants grow and the world becomes suffused with yang energy.

Yet water itself as an element can be either yang or yin. It depends on whether the water is stagnant or moving, whether it is flowing or has accumulated into a pond, whether is dark with slime or clear with reflections of the world around it.

To get the most from water in feng shui, it is important to fully comprehend the meanings, symbolisms, attributes and associations of water, both as an element and as an important influence in the feng shui of time and space.

Lillian claims that one of the great promises of feng shui is that it contains several methods which anyone can use to enhance their wealth and income luck.

When placed correctly around, within or outside the home, water has the ability to attract prosperity chi. Anyone can get rich with water.

This book covers several different ways water can be placed to become powerful feng shui features to attract wealth. Chapter 1 expounds on water in feng shui.

Chapter 2 touches on the fundamental principles of using water. Chapter 3 explains the Water Dragon Feng Shui Formula.

Chapter 4 is on constructing the Water Dragon. Chapter 5 covers landscape configuration of water while Chapter 6 contains more feng shui ways with water. Chapter 7 demonstrates activating the Water Star 8 in the Flying Star chart.

With beautiful color photographs and diagrams, Lillian shows how to:

Capture the wealth chi of natural water in the environment
Position your pond in your garden
Energies the wealth potential of your pool
Build water dragons correctly and accurately
Activate growth luck to increase asset wealth
Locate the exit directions of drains to bring wealth
Rear fish for abundance
Use the formulas to create wealth feng shui

For residents of link houses, townhouses and apartments who may not have the option of building an outdoor water feature such as a pond or pool, Lillian recommends either an aquarium or a miniature indoor water feature.

She says aquariums with fish symbolize abundance but are difficult to look after unless keeping fish is a passionate hobby. The best place for aquariums is in the living room or patio. Yang water is more powerful than yin water so the water should be moving.

There should ideally be 'life' in the water which can be provided by the presence of a fountain or by fish or any kind of flow artificially created by modern day pumps and pipes.

Lillian reiterates that water features in condominiums should never be large, as if too large, this is sure to overwhelm the chi of the residence and this transforms good water into harmful water. As such, it would be preferable to get a ready-made water feature that brings in water chi to create wealth luck.

   KUN

Ba-Gua or eight-Gua is the result of the ancient Chinese binary system. Each of the Gua is consists of three little Yao symbols, which is equivalent to a bit in today's binary language. Each Yao (section) represents either Yin (0), female or Yang (1), male force of nature. Yin (0), female, is two short little hyphens with a gap in between. Yang, male, is one continuous hyphen-like line. Use some graphic imagination to help you remember the female and male symbols or you can fashionably call them "zero (Yin)" and "one (Yang)". The image on the left contains all female or Yin Yao, it is the first of eight Gua. It represents the extreme female, mother. Mother is the origin of life. It represents the direction of southwest. It has the character of earth.

  ZHEN

Ba-Gua contains eight Gua (from 0 to 7) total. Each Gua contains three bit positions. Read from the bottom to top. This sequence represents the Change occurs from the hidden bottom location. For example, the image on the left is Zhen Gua. It has Yang (1) on the first bit position and Yin (0) on the second and third position. Translated into binary language, it is (001). It is the second of eight Gua in Ba-Gua. It represents the direction of east. It has the character of wood.

  KAN

You should to know one important fact: the Chinese character for number one, is exactly the same as the Yang (male) symbol, one continuous hyphen like line. I do not know if all the historians will agree the ancient Chinese use the Yin (female) symbol to represents 'zero'. It is definitely appropriate and academically accepted to call it zero today. When the ancient symbols were first put into computer, Yin (female) was represented by zero and one represented Yang (male).
The images on the left is Li (010) Gua, the third of eight Gua, shows that the Yang raising from the bottom position to middle. It represents direction of north. It has the character of fire.

  DUI

If you are graphic oriented, you might be happy to know that certain historians believe the ancient human being noticed the first difference between female (Yin) and male (Yang) from the most direct and important areas of our body. This is supported in many I-ching related ancient literatures and the mating of yin (female) and Yang (male) is related to balance and harmony. The image on the left is Dui (011) Gua, the fourth of eight Gua. It represents direction of west. It has the character of metal.

  GEN

The symbolic meaning of Ba-Gua is not limited to individual Yao (bit). The shape of the entire Gua also plays a strong symbolic role. The image on the left is Gen (100) Gua, the fifth of eight Gua, shows the Yang raising all the way to the top with Yin only at the hidden bottom. Like a mountain with strong Yang outside and Yin inside. It represents direction of northeast. It has the character of earth.

   LI

Have you noticed that the image on the left is exact the opposite of Li (010) Gua? It is the Kan (101) Gua. It is the sixth of the eight Gua. It has the exact opposite character and representation of Li Gua. It represents direction of south. It has the character of water. Unlike the western common belief, the meeting of fire and water is not necessarily a bad thing. It some times represents the climax of mating. Of course, after the peak, it is the declination.

  XUN

The seventh of Eight Gua is called Xun (110). It has strong growth of Yang yet not completed. Although non of the Gua is better than others, many people favor this Gua and believe it is related to wealth. This Gua represents the direction of southeast. It has the character of wood.

 QIAN

When the change from Yin to Yang is completed, we come to the last of Eight Gua that is called Qian (111). It has strongest Yang and total opposite of Kun. It is the father, the king, the emperor, the boss, the Alfa male. Again, opposite to western common belief, the Alfa male is very vulnerable. This is because it has all Yang character. Any change will undermine the power of Yang and Change can never be avoid. This Gua represents the northwest. It has the character of metal.

The most important concept is change. Change is the only thing that is constant is the universe. The Yin will become Yang and Yang will become Yin. In the extreme of Yang, Yin is incubated. Within the extreme of Ying, Yang is born. This is the forever change of life, universe and everything.
