"Toilet Cleanliness Awareness Campaign" 世界公廁日
16 November 2005, Kota Kinabalu : In conjunction with the World Toilet Day on November 19 (Saturday), City Hall will be
organising a city level "Toilet Cleanliness Awareness Campaign".
As part of the campaign, a talk to create awareness on toilet cleanliness will be held at City Hall's Conference Room at 8.30am on that day (Nov.19).
The talk is aimed at creating greater awareness not only for hygiene and health reasons but to improve the general cleanliness of public toilets in
the city.
Director-General for City Hall, Dr. Chua Kim Hing will present the talk which is expected to be attended by the relevant government agencies,
politicians, community leaders, residents committees, Non governmental organizations (NGOs) and business communities among others.
After the talk participants will be devided into several groups to visit and inspect toilets at business premises including restaurants, coffee shops,
shopping complexes and public toilets in the city.
Posters on the campaign will also be distributed during the rounds which are expected to cover the areas of Gaya Street, Pantai Street, Kg. Air,
Sinsuran, Segama, Bandaran Berjaya, Wisma Merdeka and Centre Point.
In this respect, Chua has called upon the management and owners of the business premises in the affected areas to ensure that their toilets are clean
and properly maintained during and after the inspection.
He said the World Toilet Day is declared on November 19 of each year and the purpose of the day is to have people in all countries to take action, to
increase awareness of toilet user's right to a better toilet environment, and to demand for it from toilet owners.
As such, he said it is also the toilet user's duty to contribute towards its maintenance, cleanliness and hygiene.
Chua added that the toilet cleanliness awareness campaign was in respond to the call by the Ministry of Local Government and Housing for all local
authorities to hold the campaign aimed at creating awareness on toilet cleanliness to the public in conjunction with the World Toilet Day.
As part of the campaign, the Ministry has also called upon the local authorities to adopt a model toilet and to go to the ground and monitor the
condition of public toilets in their respective areas of jurisdiction.
Meanwhile, in conjunction with the campaign City Hall lined up several follow up programs in to include courses on toilet management, adoption of
model toilets and talks to the public, which are also in line with its vision to create a clean, beautiful and a safe city. |
