Iban Dancers in Tawau Cultural Festival 24-25 March 2007

The Iban dancers you saw in the Cultural Carnival in Tawau were originally migrated from Sarawak 50 years ago and they live mainly in Tawau District. The Ibans are a mobile people in Sarawak, they do fishing in the rivers, hunting in the forests and cultivating hill rice in the jungle. |

| Iban traditional costume is
normally worn during cultural performances and festivals.
The distinct feature of the Iban girls' costume is the amount of silver pieces adorning the wearer.

| Ngajat
- Iban dance. Long long time ago, the Ibans
practiced headhunting as a means of survival against enemies.
However, headhunting has long ceased. Today their colorful
festivals centre on dances that tell of heroism, spiritualism and
thanks giving for a bountiful harvest from mother earth. |
