Tawau Regional Libraries

Tawau Regional Library was officially opened  on the 16th February 1994, after a soft opening on 27th December 1993.

There is easy access into and within the building with complete ramps and a lift for physically impaired users. The building also has a multi-purpose room, an exhibition area, discussion rooms and a children's activities room.

A cafeteria as well as a large car park which can accommodate 154 cars at any one time is provided for the convenience of the general public and staff. One of the added special features of this library is an auditorium with a seating capacity of 420. Besides library functions, this auditorium is also available for rent for talks, lectures and cultural shows.

In July 1997, the Internet service was introduced and was received with enthusiasm by users. The compilation of Educational Packages was started in November 1997 to cater for the needs of lower secondary students and is in line with the new curriculum. This library extends a bulk loan service to the Tawau Prison Department.

The Tawau Regional Library is also responsible for the supervision of the services of branch libraries in Semporna and Kunak as well as that of the mobile library services in the vicinity. The mobile library provides services to schools and villages 25Km radius from Tawau Town.
