To my great surprise, in this Museum I found a few precious images I have been searching for - pictures of Jesselton during my grandfather's time 1900 to 1950. The following photo captioned "British North Borneo Railway in 1898" is a photo supposed to be taken in 1898 , just a few years before my grand father arrived Jesselton and started work with British North Borneo Railway. The year 1898 and the year Wong Shien Chiang joining them as college between 1906-1909 was only a few years apart. It is very likely these railway staff in the photo and my grand father were later became college and knew each other well. It this is true, then I discovered a photo of "College of Wong Shin Chieng". The decedents of these co-workers might have precious historical records of those days. Their decedents might have kept a well documented family history and by great luck, inside their archives did made mentioned of this man Wong Shin Chiang. And Wong Shin Chian, my grand father, worked in this railway till the end of his day. Yet, I knew very little about him and his life as a railway worker. Now, the next thing I could do is to identify these "officials" sitting on the train. (the sub-caption of the photo described them as "officials"). This photo (below) has so much things to review. |

Below is a section close up of a above photo. The umbrella caught my eyes and I remember very well many years ago the eldery (who came from China) did sometimes talked about ".......umbrella and the local people...." |
