Hutan Rekreasi Bukit Gemok Tawau

Terletak lebih kurang 10 km dari bandar Tawau dan mempunyai pelbagai kemudahan untuk para pengunjung, antaranya ialah pondok rehat dalam kawasan taman, pusat penerangan, kemudahan memasak dan BBQ, bekalan air dan lampu, taman permainan kanak-kanak, kemudahan tandas awam dan sebagainya.  

Turut menjadi perancangan untuk dibina ialah chalet, air terjun buatan, tapak perkhemahan yang serba lengkap, mini zoo, cafeteria, taman orkid dan aboretum.  Namun begitu, apa yang paling menarik yang terdapat di pusat rekreasi ini ialah jambatan gantung (canopy walkway) sepanjang 231 meter yang dikenali sebagai Titian Silara Subkey.   Dari jambatan gantung tersebut, para pengunjung akan  dapat menikmati pemandangan keindahan alam semulajadi dan dapat melihat beberapa tempat di Tawau.

GEMOK FOREST RESORT

Gemok Forest Resort is situated 10 km from the city centre of Tawau. This forest resort consists of a small hill named Gemok Hill. Sharing the boundary of this hill is a palm oil and cocoa plantation owned by a private company. The condition of the Merotai–Tawau Road leading to this resort is good and visitors may use any land vehicle to travel there.

Although this forest resort was developed in the early 1990’s, basic facilities such as rest tents, wash rooms and trails have already been installed. These facilities will be increased and maintained to cater for the needs of visitors. The trails cover the perimeter and peak of the hill. They also allow for activities like jogging and the appreciation of the resort’s natural beauty.

The natural forests in Gemok Hill are protected. Hence, various commercial timbers can be found here. Many wild plants such as the forest orchid can also be seen. Picking or destroying any fauna and flora found in this forest resort is strictly forbidden. On top of Gemok Hill, one can see the panoramic beauty of the city of Tawau. Besides offering Gemok Hill climbing as one of many sports activities, the breeze and the sacredness of this forest resort can sooth the mind of any visitor.
