CAR PARK
Marco Polo Hotel has a big car park. This is important to those who drive their own car to Tawau and need a secure compound of free car park for overnight.

HOTEL WITH OLD CHARM
This grand old hotel of Tawau has been the best hotel in town until the brand new 4 star Promenade Hotel opened in May 2009.
On March 1996, King Carl Gustaf XVI and Queen Silvia of Sweden accompanied by a 60-member delegation visited Tawau. The royal couple stayed at Belmont Marco Polo Hotel.
Belmont Maco Polo Hotel being one of the oldest hotel in Tawau its location is also in the old Town Center. Belmont Maco Polo Hotel, together with most old hotels in the old town center, were established during the Timber Bloom Era of Tawau in the 1970s.

The turn of this century, a stiff competition for numerous new budget hotels with high class look mushrooming in the new town center offering choices to various classes of visitors to the town.
Cost of upgrading and renovation an old hotel is as much as establishing a brand new budget hotel now a day. This old premier hotel may as well remain keeping its old charm.


GOING AROUND
Pasar Gantung (Philippine Market) is situated next to a mosque and a five minutes walk from Marco Polo Hotel. This market was a place to get Sabah's famous cultured pearls and crystal ware before, but these local souvenirs are getting more and more available else where. Instead in the last decade, the market has been developed from "Philippine" to more a "Indonesia". Today the market is more popularly called Pasar Gantung (the hanging market).

Hanging Market is now local tourist favorite market to get the cheapest and latest fashion textiles from Indonesia. Others then those common Bead curtains, table decorations, sea-shells from the Philippines. More are the Indonesian Islamic textiles and clothing. Muslim tourists from West Malaysia knows this place well. They bought Islamic souvenirs from this market by dozens.

The another equally old Hotel Emas is 10 minutes walk toward the West.
