This is a joint project between the developer Sabah Urban Development Corporation Sdn Bhd
through its wholly-owned subsidiary Perusahaan Pusaka Timur Sdn Bhd (PPT) and
Promenade Hotel Sdn Bhd
This biggest hotel in Tawau has
180-rooms
The whole Kuhara Point Development costs RM255 million, with the Hotel
budgeted at RM60 million. The hotel is expected to be completed by end of 2008.
The first phase of the integrated development is the Kuhara Court
condominium project that comprises 182 residential units located adjacent to the
shopping complex and completed in December 2004.
The second phase is the Eastern Plaza shopping centre consisting of a supermarket, departmental store, food court, an
18-lane bowling alley, amusement centre and cineplexes. This complex comes with
572 car parks and the occupation certificate is being expected soon.
The hotel development adjoining the Eastern Plaza and sharing
eight-floor levels with the shopping mall will be the largest hotel in Tawau -
Promenade Hotel,
offering from Superior-standard rooms up to Executive and Presidential Suites,
as well as a coffee house, a deli corner, a fun pub and a lobby lounge.
The hotel ballroom can accommodate up to 1,300 persons
in banquet style and 3,000 persons in theatre style. This is the biggest ballroom in Sabah with a high ceiling and without pillars and
three meeting rooms.
Towering over the Eastern Plaza complex will be an 18-storey business hotel (photo
above) with 171
standard rooms, seven superior rooms and two executive suites.
It will also have the largest banquet hall in Tawau covering an area of 23,138
square feet that could easily accommodate 100 tables for special occasions.
The new Eastern Plaza shopping complex will offer 146,520 square feet of net retail area.
The lower ground floor, ground floor and the first floor will have anchor
tenants such as departmental stores and supermarkets.
The complex will provide covered car parking facilities for 650 passenger cars
in addition to 49 surface bays.
Located at Mile 1, Kuhara Road, the complex offers strategic location to
retailers for it lies within the most-developed belt of the town. It also has
a dual access to both the Jalan Kuhara and Jalan Apas.
Although Tawau has made tremendous progress in agriculture, aquaculture and
tourism, it admittedly lacks quality retail outlets and hotel accommodation
although it is the second most important town in Sabah after the State
capital. Kuhara Point will fill that void.
