Some orang puteh friends of mine asked me quite an interesting
question recently...

"What do you think of us Orang Putehs ?"

I don't know. I was told the outstanding characteristic of the orang puteh — discovered from the day he set foot in this region — was his fear of durians.

And I don't know how far this is true. They said the planter's wife in our kampung once actually fainted because of them...

But orang putehs have come a long way since then ...

Doing what the locals do isn't easy, eating, for instance.
