Master of English Studies

OUM’s Master of English Studies (MES) is a unique interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary program that combines studies in language and cultural production such as literary and filmic texts to promote a more focused and holistic understanding of English as an intellectual discipline.

Keeping true to the expansive spirit of English, MES engages with and draws from such fields as film studies, visual culture, area studies, philosophy, and political theory to provide learners with opportunities to acquire a wide range of advanced subject knowledge, subject-specific skills, and generic and transferable skills.

The MES curriculum features such exciting courses as Visual Culture, Cultural Studies, Film and Society in Contemporary Southeast Asia, Philosophy of Literature, Critical Theory, and World Literature.

The objectives of MES are to:

- develop a range of subject-specific and transferable skills, including high-order conceptual, analytic, and communication skills
