Equator Academy of Art
|Established in 1987, Equator Academy
of Art & Design (EAA) conducts its
courses at two campuses. One
occupies a modern, fully air-conditioned
five-storey building in the centre of
Georgetown, Penang, while the other is
housed in a stately heritage mansion at
Leith Street Penang.
EAA prides itself as one of the most established and renowned art, media and design colleges in Malaysia. It offers students well-structured courses, up to date curriculum and comprehensive training in art, media and design that enables them to pursue a successful career in art and design.
Equator Academy of Art & Design academic strength lies in its commitment to engage qualified and experienced teaching staff with the majority of them trained overseas. This ensures that students receive the special edge in Art education.
Courses run by the Academy are approved by the Malaysian Ministry of Education and accredited/ approved by the Lembaga Akreditasi Negara (LAN) and are taught up to the Diploma level. Students who wish to further their studies are encouraged to apply to one of our 13 overseas partner universities for the award of a Bachelor's Degree which would be issued by the foreign institution.
Our well-qualified staff and lecturers are Ph.D, Master's or Bachelor's degree holders, coming from as far as Mexico to local Malaysian lecturers who graduated from UK, Australia and New Zealand. Apart from being educated abroad, our lecturers have at least 2 years of teaching experience and are also equipped with years of industrial working experience. Therefore, all of our teaching personnel are armed with a wealth of resource-based experience and mediated teaching- learning skills.
The result of our staff's skills and commitment to the students are evident as our students are 99% employed upon graduation, with 100% employment rate in the Interior and Architectural discipline.
Equator offers full-time, JPS and LAN approved courses such as Certificate in Art & Design, Diploma in Graphic & Multimedia Design, Diploma in Interior Design, Diploma in Architectural Technology, Diploma in Fashion Design Technology, and Diploma in Fine Art.
The full-time programmes are recognized by our international partner universities where credit transfer programmes are available for the 5 majors.

EAA is also an Authorized Autodesk Centre where professionals are able to upgrade their professional skills in AutoCad, AutoDesk Viz, and AutoDesk Revit, Other part-time courses that EAA offers include InteriCAD, Computer Graphic Design, Residential and Commercial Interior, Fashion Design and Garment Construction, Photoshop, Digital Photography, and MLVK Courses in Multimedia and Fashion,
Both campuses are fully air-conditioned. To accommodate our students' needs for academic comfort. Equator has a couple of large lecture halls, lecture theatres, computer & multimedia studios, PC & Mac Labs, fine art studios, photography studio and dark room, a library, a multi- purpose gallery, several classrooms and free Internet broadband with WIFI access.
EAA library is the largest art and design specialist library in the Northern Region which holds up to 5,000 books, magazines and journals to accommodate the students' creative cultivation. Nearly 100 new art and design books are sourced every year to meet students' demands.
To facilitate the students' need for comfort and entertainment, Equator has a refectory a chill-out area, a multi-purpose hall, pool tables, ping pong tables (table tennis), karaoke system. Astro satellite TV channels, badminton and basketball courts, and free parking at the Leith Street campus.

At Equator Academy of Art, not only are students encouraged to work hard, but they are also encouraged to engage in sporting activities to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Students get to enjoy weekly sporting activities such as badminton, basketball, table-tennis, outdoor excursions like hiking and study trips which are related to the students' area of study, as well as festival get-togethers like steamboat and buffet lunches. Events such as Halloween Parties, Tele-matches, Art Camps, Beach Parties and Barbeques are also held to promote better student-lecturer relationship.
In addition, there is also an Alumni Society that encourages graduates of Equator Academy to remain as a part of the EAA family. The primary purpose of the Alumni Society is to address the continuing education needs of the alumni; to maintain channels of communication among the alumni, faculty and students of the College; and to recognize outstanding alumni, faculty and students.
Scholarships / Financial Aid
Equator Academy of Art offers quarter, half and full scholarships to selected deserving students based on their academic merit and family background. Additionally students may wish to apply to commercial banks for study loans. The academy is also involved in the Star Education Fund, where students can apply for full scholarships.
Depending on the area of studies, holders of the Equator Diploma are granted 1 - V/2 years exemptions towards a degree programme by our oversea partner universities. Students with good results at Equator are also given incentives by reduction in tuition fees by some oversea partner universities.
The college has recently signed credit transfer agreements with the Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, Scotland and the University of New Castle in Australia.
