The College is 50% subsidized by the Government for all its recurrent and capital expenditure. The other 50% is borne by the Trustees.

MCA aims to establish an institution of higher learning for young Malaysians who have been deprived of the opportunity to seek education, as well as to meet the rising demand from the private sector for trained professional and technical personnel .

The College started with the commencement of classes in the School of Pre-University Studies in 1969 and followed by the School of Business Studies in 1971. The earlier classes were conducted in the Technical Institute, Cheras and Day Training College, Jalan Kuantan. Due to its rapid expansion, new centers were set up in six secondary schools and Catholic High School, Petaling Jaya. On 19 July 1976, with the completion of the first phase of the College Campus in Kuala Lumpur, classes were moved to its own campus premises in Jalan Genting Kelang, Setapak.

From an initial intake of 764 students in 1969, the College today has a Main Campus and five Branch Campuses in Penang, Perak, Johor, Pahang and Sabah.

The College is one of the country’s major tertiary educational institutions with numerous modern teaching and support facilities. It has a strong tradition of professional and has established an international reputation for the high quality and wide range of courses offered.

Academic Strengths

Courses in TAR College are conducted at the Advanced Diploma, Diploma, Certificate and Pre-University levels to provide flexibility for students to further their studies.

TAR College Diploma graduates can proceed to Advanced Diploma courses and to Year 2 of relevant Bachelor Degree courses in many universities on Advanced Standing/Credit Transfer.

The TAR College Advanced Diploma is widely accepted by many universities as being equivalent to a First Degree and many graduates have been accepted directly into Masters Degree programmes in local and overseas universities. Advanced Diploma graduates also have the added option to complete a 14- week honors degree conversion programme at either Sheffield Hallam University or Liverpool John Moores University in the UK and graduate with an honors degree,

Certificate courses are skill-based courses that prepare students for the workplace and also for those who wish to progress on to diploma courses.

School of Arts and Science

The Diploma graduates of the School can progress to the first year of Advanced Diploma and the Junior Year of the Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree, Campbell University (USA) programme. The Advanced Diploma and the BS programmes are jointly conducted and students are simultaneously prepared for the examinations of TAR College and Campbell University. Students can graduate with both the TAR College Advanced Diploma as well as the BS Degree in 4 years after the completion of SPM (or 3 years after the completion of STPM).

School of Business Studies

The School offers a wide range of business and finance disciplines that cover the functional and managerial aspects of the corporate world. Graduates from the School are holding senior and top positions in various corporate entities both locally and abroad.

Since 1987, TAR College has been the only institution outside UK and Ireland with the privilege to conduct the ACCA Internally Assessed courses.

The School innovatively articulates the professional curricula of The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA) with its Diploma and Advanced Diploma courses. Its Advanced Diploma students are simultaneously prepared to sit for the final stage examinations of ACCA, CIMA and ICSA. Students can complete the ACCA, CIMA and ICSA examinations simultaneously with the respective Advanced Diploma in Commerce courses. ACCA, CIMA and ICSA grant the maximum exemptions to the College's relevant Advanced Diploma that is consistent with that granted to a relevant Bachelor Honors Degree.

School of Technology

Since its establishment in 1972, the School has produced many professional personnel for the construction industry in Malaysia. Many of them have carved a niche in the field of Quantity Surveying and are successful as builders locally and abroad. Its Advanced Diploma students in Engineering and Building have also been accepted by many universities to pursue Master's Degree programmes.

At the Advanced Diploma level, engineering students are simultaneously prepared to sit for the professional examinations of Engineering Council, UK, or BEM/IEM, Malaysia. The Diploma programme in Quantity Surveying is accredited by the Board of Quantity Surveyors, Malaysia. Holders of Advanced Diploma in Technology (Building) are fully exempted from the examinations of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), UK, and can obtain CIOB membership. Such level of exemption and accreditation by CIOB is normally awarded to Bachelor of Science (Hons) Degrees in the relevant field of study in universities in UK and overseas.

School of Social Science and Humanities

School of Pre-University Studies

This School offers very affordable pre-university courses and students are taught by very experienced lecturers, The passing rates have been high and many students have gained entry into prestigious universities both locally and abroad.

Six months after its set-up in October 2006, 306 companies have been added to the database and the list is growing rapidly

Scholarship / Financial Aid

The College offers merit scholarships to students with 7As and above in their SPM examination or 3As and above in their STPM/ A-Level examination. Students can also apply for scholarships from the Star Education Fund,

Nanyang Tertiary Education Fund, professional bodies and large corporations.

The University of New South Wales Golden Jubilee Scholarships as well as scholarships and grants from large corporations and professional bodies such as Hong Leong Foundation, Kuok Foundation. ICI Industrial Chemicals, Chemical Company of Malaysia, ACCA, CIMA, and ICSA are awarded to outstanding students.

18 interest-free student loan schemes of the College are awarded to several hundred needy and deserving students each year. Students are also eligible to apply for loans and financial assistance from PTPTN, state governments and other organizations.

Since 2005, the College has been awarded the Premier Plus status which is the highest level of accreditation that ACCA awards to tuition providers under the University and College Registration Scheme (UCRS), Only the top 5% of the world's ACCA tuition providers have been given this privilege.

TAR College students have boosted the College's name through their outstanding achievements. Over the years, many of them have won prizes for their excellent performance in international professional examinations and emerged as winners in intervarsity competitions. TAR College graduates are very much sought after by employers with most of them gainfully employed within 6 months after their graduation due to the comprehensive education and training they have received at the College.
