LAT (Mohamed Nor Khalid) is one of the most-read cartoonists in Southeast Asia, and with the continued, widespread reprinting and translating of his works.

Kow Chai, the monitor operator at an open mine, has been having this funny feeling just recently. Every time that girl Moi Yin passes by, he just can't help but tremble.

"There's no doubt about it," he says. "It's love."

Since he strongly believes in love before marriage, Kow Chai makes his move by getting acquainted.

It doesn't take long before they start going steady.

Something about Moi Yin that really MOVES Kow Chai is, apparently, her ability in keeping her good looks, fair complexion and all despite being a dulang washer.

When Kow Chai and Moi Yin's marriage plan is accepted by their parents, representatives of the would be groom drop by a Moi Yin's house one day.

They agree on the couple's engagement and wedding expenses.

About ten days before the wedding day, Kow Chai's people drop by again. This time with the wedding expenses and presents for Moi Yin... two chickens, two bottle of brandy
and 100 katis of "piang" (wedding biscuits.)

They then have a small "piang" party.

It won't be long now before the great day. The lady is all prepared. She has already rented the town's best wedding gown.

It's going to be quite a wedding for sure. Why, her  father has booked the association band.

Kow Chai the bridegroom is here. As a matter of fact he arrived 25 minutes ago but is still stuck in the Wolseley. Why? Reason is that the only authorized person to open the car door — the bride's kid brother — just doesn't seem to be around.

It's all part of the jolly good fun the kid is having. He really makes use of his position.

For his official permission, there must be the red packet.

Before you know it, it's already time for Kow Chai to take his woman home to be with his people. Moi Yin  mother equips them with two sugar cane plants so that their life would be long, always sweet and  forever green.

They're off for the tea ceremony. But first, a brief stop at the town photo studio. It's a must.

All eyes are on Moi Yin now as she appears amidst Kow Chai's people. She meets them in the traditional way... by serving tea to everyone.

All eyes are also on the one being served by Moi Yin ... the crowed always wants to know what each cousin has in return for the bride...

For days after the wedding, Mo'i Yin is dressed in her finest clothes and has been heavy with jeweler as she starts her new life.

But not for long though. Soon as Kow Chai goes back to handle the monitor, she changes back into her old working outfit.
