Family Platycnemididae
Genus Copera
we have in our image records two species in this Genus Copera:
Copera are creatures of the plains below 500 meters found on sluggish streams
and in swamp forest. They sometimes venture into the open at forest margins. The
larvae are quite distinctive, with a fringe of long, fine filaments around the
margins of the caudal lamellae. They are found among detritus and root masses in
the banks of slow flowing steams.
Two recognized species occur in Borneo. Copera vittata and Copera marginipes
They are found in similar situations with Copera vittata but mainly in the South Borneo where both species may fly together. It is easy to recognize the males by their expanded, bright yellow legs.

Copera marginipes is similar to Copera vittata in build; synthorax marked
with yellow streaks; legs flattened and yellow; 'ghost' forms occur among
immatures. Habitat similar to last, including clear streams. Widespread in
tropical Asia.
is common everywhere in swampy forested places, even in very disturbed habitat so long as it is shaded. Typically, Copera vittata has red legs but a common form found in Brunei by A.G. Orr has black legs.

Immature individuals appear in pale whitish 'ghost' forms.
Copera vittata is slender and dainty; variegated pattern of greenish yellow
maculation on synthorax; legs orange red. Variants may represent separate spp.
Immatures mainly pale ivory, known as 'ghost' forms.
Found in sluggish channels and shallow pools in swampy forest. Widespread in
tropical Asia.

Dragonflies of Borneo
"With 275 named species so far recorded in Borneo, the island has one of the
richest and most exciting dragonfly faunas in the world. More than 40% of
species occur nowhere else, making it the most distinctive sub-region of
Sundaland." A Guide to the Dragonflies of Borneo by Albert G. Orr

They include some of the most exquisite forms found anywhere in the World. FLORA Borneo has 150 species of wild fig trees. Most of them are found in forests of Sabah. FISHERIES Prawn farming is a main commercial activities in Tawau. Spawners from Tawau are graded the best in Malaysia. For decades, Tawau has been exporting high-grade tiger prawns to several countries such as Korea, Japan, Taiwan, China, Vietnam, Singapore, Egypt and Australia.
