False Blister Beetles- Oedemeridae
The oedemerids, primarily found on flowers, are frequently mistaken for blister
beetles (Meloidae), and have subsequently earned the name false blister beetles.
The false blister beetles are slender and softbodied. Most species are metallic
green or blue in color.
Oedemerids found in temperate zones can be recognized easily by two structural
features. First, they have extremely short elytra, leaving most of their rear
wings fully exposed. Second, segments of the back legs of the males are swollen
and resemble thick thighs. The larvae of the false blister beetle are usually
found in rotting wood.
