Roach Reefs Resort is a man-made tropical reefs resort with swaying coconut palms and shady trees. It is away from the crowd and also other annoying insects. Clear waters with excellent dive spots inhabited by diverse marine life surround the island. Snorkeling is excellent in waters just a stone throw from the island.

The Resort is a peaceful and comfortable situated on this private man-made reef.  Its location is right at the edge of the Borneo shelf and less then 50 mins away from Sipadan Island. Another paradise for divers and non divers alike.

Roach Reed Resort

Roach Reefs is the outer most reefs from Tawau, built  by the sinking of 2 used steel barge in 1993. Roach Reefs Resort used to be a private retreat for for the Japanese divers.

Chalets of the  resort are built in traditional architecture offering simply elegant accommodation.

Staff are friendly and helpful. Facilities of the resort include rooms with ceiling fan, sea view balcony, private bathroom and toiletries with hot shower, restaurant serving Asian and Continental cuisine, international phone call service, and dive centre provides all in-water activities include scuba training and education.

The resort can hold a maximum 15 guests, which is most suitable for a private group function. Because the island is not crowded, the atmosphere is one of relaxation.




The Only Private Reef in Sabah

Due to the unique status of being the only private reef in Sabah no large crowds will ever be encountered while staying in the resort. Opened in 1995 the island is small, app.. 200m x 100m, and accommodates a maximum of 40 guests. Fishing is strictly prohibited (just like at Sipadan) and various species of fish can be observed close up.

There are 10 dive sites at Roach Reef Resort including 2 wrecks - turtles, schooling barracudas & travel leys, and with the exception of Sipadan it is the only reef throughout the area with resident white tip reef sharks and nurse sharks that can be found hiding under table corals. Manta rays and whale sharks are often seen in the vicinity and there a plenty of small critters like Spanish dancer, ghost pipe fish, crab eye goby, mantis shrimp, etc. Game fishing for mackerel, yellow fin tuna, dorado and marlin can be arranged on request.

The atmosphere at Roach Reefs Resort is isolated and tranquil.

TRAVEL TIME BY SPEED BOAT:

From Tawau Yacht Club to Roach Reef Resort is only 1 hour
From Roach Reef Resort to Sipadan Island is only 40 minutes
From the Roach Reef Resort jetty to the dive sites takes less than 5 minutes

The boat trip leaving from Tawau Yacht Club Jetty It takes 2 hours to arrive at the Roach Reefs Resort. The resort can also reach by speed boat from Balung River which will take only 25 mins.

The resort has 9 chalets : one Suite with 3 single beds & 8 twin-bedded rooms. The rooms are simple with no air-conditioning, only ceiling fan.

Coconut Trees & hammocks are lined in front each chalet.

The normal Package includes all meals and snorkeling. The Resort Staff were very accommodative although English language is a problem.

Snorkeling is all arranged.

Meals were served in the Dining Hall. Food is excellent. The Dining Hall can accommodate 40-50 people. The sunrise & sunset from the Chalets & Resort are  scenic.

Diving
Roach reefs resort is part of the Celebes Sea, sharing similar bio-diversity as Sipadan and Mabul. From the resort are 13 dive sites offering a variety of marine treasures such as: harlequin ghost pipefish, frogfish, nudibranchs, gobies, pipefish, cora, garden eels, barracudas, wrecks, mandarin fish, stonefish, crocodile fish and much more.

There are also organized trips to Sipadan Island

- Return airport transfer to Balung jetty
- return boat transfer to resort
- twin share accommodation in our basic seaview chalet with attached bathroom. With ceiling fan, we also provide bath towel and hair dryer.
- 3 boat dives daily in the vicinity of Roach Reefs with unlimited house reef between 6am – 6pm. except on arrival and departure days.
* extra dive can be arrange to Sipadan and Mabul (pls refer to note below)
- full board in resort; we serve local cuisine in home style cooking.
- Free flow of coffee, tea, milo and cold water. Light snacks are available.
