FAMILY PHOLCIDAE
幽靈蛛科
The spider family Pholcidae are small- to medium-sized, haplogyne spiders,
having six or eight eyes.
They can be easily distinguished from other families by the following
characters:
1- prosoma about as long as wide;
2- clypeus about as high as chelicerae;
3- male palp with prominent retrolateral paracymbium (procursus), which is
rarely reduced;
4- male chelicerae usually with sexual modifications;
5- tarsi usually pseudosegmented (Huber, 2000).
Six-eyed pholcids are usually tiny, leaf-litter dwelling spiders.
The Family Pholcids are fragile spiders, the body being 2–10 mm in length
with legs which may be up to 50 mm long.
Pholcus and Smeringopus have cylindrical abdomens.The shape of the Pholcus and
Smeringopus's body resembles that of a peanut shell. The eyes are arranged in
two lateral groups of three and two smaller median contiguous eyes. Eight and
six eyes both occur in this family.
Spermophora has a small globose abdomen and its eyes are arranged in two groups
of three and no median eyes.
Pholcids are gray to brown with banding or chevron markings.

Daddy Long-leg Spiders
These spiders need no introduction. They make their webs in dark or dim corners
of houses and buildings. They create the untidy cobwebs under the ceiling and
staircase. They have rather long and thin legs. When disturbed, they vibrate
their bodies so energetically that they appear as a blur.
