Asian Institute of Medicine, Science and

Academic Strengths Presently, AIMST has the distinction of being the first technical university in Kedah and the first among the private sector universities in the country that has included several branches of science among its taught disciplines, This strongly reflects the University's philosophy that future technology is based on today's science, and that without the support of science, technology cannot be fully exploited. The University, while currently promoting its undergraduate courses, is also actively developing its postgraduate programmes. at the same time. The full breadth of these programmes will unfold by mid 2007. AIMST strongly believes that high quality research and teaching are inextricably bound together and that this ethos should underpin all of its postgraduate course offerings. Students enrolled for the postgraduate courses, irrespective of whether they are following taught or research programmes, will come into contact with high profile experts in their fields. The option to follow a part-time course of study will only be limited to selected postgraduate diploma programmes. All other courses conducted by the University are on a full-time basis, To strengthen interaction between AIMST staff and professionals in the industry, commerce and the public sector, as well as to ensure that research and consultancy work in the University are in niche areas that can also benefit from the latest insights, three specialist centers will be immediately established. They are the Centre for Postgraduate Medical Education and Health Services, the Advanced Technology Centre, and the Bioinformatics Centre. Support staff for these Centers will be drawn from the Faculties of Medicine and Health Sciences; Engineering and Computer Technology, and Applied Sciences. Financial Aid The University assists in obtaining financial aid for students through a number of agencies. All degree students are eligible to apply for the PTPTN loan through our Student Affairs Division. Loans from commercial banks are also available. Student Counselling and Support Services The on-campus counselling service aims to contribute to the welfare and well-being of the student population. Our professionally trained Student Counsellors provide individuals and groups counseling, career services and disability support. Student Affairs The Student Affairs Division is responsible for catering to the needs and welfare of students and covers all aspects related to student development. It oversees the development and management of student activities via societies and clubs and through events such as sports, cultural and debating activities. Healthcare The AIMST Student Health Clinic has been set up to provide routine medical care for students and staff alike. Student Activities and Recreation At AIMST we encourage students to not only excel academically but also to actively involve themselves in extra-curricular activities. The Main Campus allows students to do just that. The Sports complex comprises an international standard track and field, an indoor stadium complete with badminton courts, squash courts, both indoor and outdoor basketball courts, a gym plus a swimming pool. Prayer Rooms Two large functionally designed prayer rooms, one for men and the other for women, are available for Muslim staff and students to perform their religious obligations. International Students Office Our International Student Office provides several services for overseas students, some of which are VISA processing, arranging student permits, counselling and advice on financial aid resources. |
Food The AIMST Cafeteria provides catering for staff and students. Our cafeteria serves both vegetarian and non-vegetarian halal food and we have a wide selection of dishes on the menu, which includes both local and western cuisine. Accommodation The Student Residence located within our Main Campus at Semeling is ideally suited to cater to the students' basic everyday needs. Each apartment consists of 3 bedrooms, a living room, a kitchenette and ample bath facilities. These apartments range from 4 students to a room, 3 students to a room, 2 students to a room and single occupancy rooms. Laundry and transport services are also available. A post-office, mini-market, banking facilities and hair saloon will be in place soon. Health and safety concerns of hostellers are ensured through the services of well-trained security / wardens. |
