Supplementary Agreement for the Whole of Life Plan

On the signing on the extension on Monday, he said in order to ensure a continuous stream of quarry products, the state government and Hap Seng had entered into the Supplementary Agreement for the Whole of Life Plan and extension of area for the Bukit Kukusan quarry.

The agreement provided Hap Seng the right to occupy the Kukusan Forest Reserve for another 15 years to produce quarry products.

Supplementary Agreement for the Whole of Life Plan:

Under the Whole-of-Life Plan, Hap Seng quarry activities and associated structures such as access roads, administrative buildings will be limited to about 41 hectares, whereby the remaining 25 hectares is to be administered and managed as residual forest.

One of the conditions in the Supplementary Agreement is the contribution of a sum of RM2 million by Hap Seng company to Forest Conservation Trust Fund operated by the Sabah Forestry Department for forest conservation.

The contribution will support the various forest conservation programmes and activities spearheaded by the department.

On 9th August 2010, Hap Seng contributed RM2 million to the Sabah State Forestry Department’s Forest Conservation Trust Fund in line with the Hap Seng Group’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) commitment towards conservation of the environment.

Ron Delaney, Chief Executive for Quarry and Building Materials Division of the Hap Seng Group presented cheque to Forestry director Datuk Sam Mannan.

Delaney also presented a cheque of USD 66,000 (approximately RM214,200) to the department for a tree replanting and rehabilitation exercise that would involve 66 hectares of Kukusan Forest Reserve in Tawau. The exercise is to ensure that forest reserve cover is continuously maintained in the State.

Hap Seng’s CSR pillars included the environment, community, marketplace and workplace.

Hap Seng Building Materials donation of the USD66,000 would be used for a pioneering No Net Loss Project of the department to help restore and enrich degraded lands and forests elsewhere, covering at least 40 hectares.

The government and Hap Seng Building Materials had entered into a Supplementary Agreement for the Whole-of-Life Plan and Extension of Area for the Bukit Kukusan quarry in order to ensure a continuously stream of quarry products to the community.

The company has been operating the Bukit Kukusan quarry which is situated within the 66 hectares Kukusan Forest Reserve in between Kg Kukusan and Kg Kukusan Baharu, about 4km from Tawau town since 29 July 1980.

The supplementary agreement of the plan provides the company the rights to occupy the Kukusan Forest Reserve for 15 years, to produce quarry products.
