The RM18 million Sri Indah New Regional Bus Terminal in Mile 10, Jalan Apas, for long distance express bus services (Tawau-Ranau-Kota Kinabalu) was in full operational on Tuesday 3rd April 2018.


The construction of the terminal started on January 4, 2016 and was completed on Dec. 4, 2017.
The operating hours would be from 6.30am-8.30pm and a display screen for bus departures and arrivals has been installed at the terminal.

The old long distance express bus operations in Sabindo ceased on 3rd April 2018.
Rental cars in Sabindo will remain at the same site pending the transfer to Sabindo Square bus terminal.


The 5.5-acre Sri Indah New Regional Bus Terminal can accommodate 25 to 50 express buses at a time and eight bus operators with 59 buses


The new terminal is equipped with beautiful and comfortable infrastructure like

-Cargo counters,
-Information and ticketing counters, -Cafeteria,
-Praying room,
-42 public parking lots,
-11 taxi parking lots,
-20 hawker kiosks



The Sri Indah bus terminal was a joint-venture project between the private sector and the government where the site was provided by Hap Seng Sdn Bhd while the funding was channelled by the Federal Government.

The management of the new bus terminal is handled by the Tawau Municipal Council.

The buses from Sarawak and Brunei run directly only up to Kota Kinabalu City. From here take another direct express bus to Tawau Town.

More about Pan-Borneo Highway

The Pan-Borneo Highway is a stretch of highway in Malaysia that is little bus-traversed. Most travel guides have completely passed over this highway.


Tawau has inter-district buses serving the regions surrounding the town.
Taking a bus from Tawau to Kota Kinabalu will take 8 hours. The starting point of the bus is from Regional Terminal Bas Tawau, while the drop-off point is at Jalan Tugu, Kota Kinabalu.


This Regional Bus Terminal cater for all inter-district buses arriving from the Kota Kinabalu including from Sipitang via Kota Kinabalu.


There is no bus from Tawau Town to Indonesia, simply because there is no road going there. But there are daily buses from Kuching City to Indonesia.


Long Distance Bus Terminal is beside the famous seafood stalls. And the new Mosque is 10 minutes walk from here.

Here travellers board buses for Lahad Datu (150km away), Sandakan (360) and Kota Kinabalu (560).


KK-Sandakan / KK-Tawau Express Bus. : It is an 8 hours ride along a scenic mountain route from the KK city to Sandakan or Tawau

Several express bus companies operate bus between the Tawau and Kota Kinabalu.

For those travel from Tawau to Kuching by bus (its a long long journey), the journey end in Kuching Sentral, This regional bus terminal, 6 miles from Kuching city center.

There is not direct bus from Tawau to Kuching. Passengers have to change bus at Kota Kinabalu and Miri.

 


Kota Kinabalu Bus Terminal - Now replaced by Inanam Bus Terminal

The Kota Kinabalu Bus Terminal is located 10KM from the city centre

Local buses run once a day to Ranau from the bus terminal and can drop passengers off at Kinabalu park, enroute to Ranau .

The buses leave KK at around 7.00am reaching the Kinabalu park HQ at about 10.00am. It cost about RM15 to RM20 per person.

For other buses to Tawau, Sandakan, Lahad Datu -usually the same bus dropping passengers off at the kinabalu park. It will be the same road to the east.

 


Arriving at KK from Tawau :
Please note that the bus will no more bring you to the city since 2006. The bus end the journey in Inanam town and you have to find you own transport for the final journey to KK city.

Shifting Of Terminal For Long Distance Buses in Kota Kinabalu beginning 2006

Since January 5, 2006, all long distance bus routes from the North and the East Coast has been using  the new City Bus Terminal (North) at Mile 6, Jalan Tuaran adjacent to the Inanam business centre.

The bus terminal cater for all inter-district buses arriving from the North including Tawau, Sandakan, Lahad Datu, Ranau, Kudat, Kota Marudu and Kota Belud.

To assist passengers to commute from Town Padang to the Inanam bus terminal and vice versa, the Town Padang is  used as a station for shuttle buses provided by City Hall, which operate  every 15 minutes.

The Inanam bus terminal has sheltered waiting area, toilet facilities, enhanced security computerized ticketing and a range of convenient commercial amenities.

(Remarks : Many complained on the new bus terminal booking system is error-prone double-booking. So, to be sure your seat is not 'shared' with someone else, always double check with the bus office.
