A tall tree in Tawau Hills Park of Tawau
One treasure asset of Tawau Hills Park is that the park
is home to a few tallest tropical trees in the world.
It is rather difficult to see the canopy of these tall trees amid the
thick tropical forest as tree top is often hidden from sight by the
foliage of surrounding trees.
The image above is one of the tall trees in the Botanical Garden of
Tawau Hills Park. The Botanical Garden is within 5 minutes walk
from park office with a fully maintained path.

Albizia saman (Rain
Tree)合歡樹(雨樹)
This is one of the most beautiful rain tree in Sabah. In Kubota Camp.
Albizia saman (Rain Tree) was introduced by the British to Sabah and
Sarawak before WWII as a shade tree and ornamental,
By now these rain trees are age between 50 to 100 years. Some being cut
down unfortunately, but most remain growing into beautiful big trees in
town and cities.

SMALL WORK
After 12 years, what supposed to be "Upgrading and Landscaping of Jalan
St. Patrick" actually turned out to be "Landscaping the road side in
front Teck Guan Company".
There is no upgrading to the one kilometer long road. No landscaping on
the opposite side of the road and other section of the road.
Slow torture to a tree by human
This is well grown mango tree in a driving school compound in Sabah.
Someone deliberately want to kill this young tree by burning at it
trunk. Before burning, the tree bark at the main trunk also deliberately
been cut and removed.
The purpose of killing this tree is unknown. But believed to be related
to traditional superstition from Indonesia. Killing a tree may has
something similar as sacrifice a hen, or a black cat or a goat to please
the evil spirit in return for divine protection.
Certain Indonesian who believe in ANTU lives in trees will start
"slow-killing" that tree when they do not feel comfortable to see it
every day.
The destruction include Cutting and removal of tree bark follow with
Burning
While there are many NGO preventing cruelty to cats, dogs and animals,
there is no NGO in preventing cruelty to trees such as this dying mango
tree. Someone should start to organize one

Flowering Palm
Corypha
umbraculifera (Talipot palm)
These feather-like branches are so magnificent, like the crowning of a
tree before it dies.
Corypha umbraculifera (Talipot palm) is native to southern India
(Malabar Coast) and Sri Lanka.
This one of the largest palms in the world can reached heights of up to
25 m, with stems up to 1.3 m in diameter.
This fan palm (Arecaceae tribe Corypheae) has large palmate leaves up to
5 m in diameter, with a petiole up to 4 m, and 100 over leaflets.
Talipot palm bears the largest inflorescence of any plant, 6-8 m long,
consisting of one to several million small flowers borne on a branched
stalk that forms at the top of the trunk.
The Talipot palm is monocarpic, flowering only once, when it is 30 to 80
years old. It takes about a year for the fruit to mature, producing
thousands of round yellow-green fruit 3-4 cm diameter, containing a
single seed.
The plant dies after fruiting.
