The final 200 meters

The last 200 meters is a slop of up the hill then down the other side of the hill where the water fall is. This is the most difficult part of the jungle trial and the most excited challenging part of the trekking. After this difficult part you arrived to see your achieved goal - the Bukit Gelas Water Fall.

During rainy days the mud get wet and this slop can be very slippery for children and old people. Ware a good pair of shoes.

There are jungle trails to waterfall and sulphurous spring.

Visitors can find friendly forest walking trails. There are interesting trails in Tawau Hills Park, such as
1) Sulphur Springs (3.2 KM) and
2) Bukit Gelas Waterfall (2.5 KM).

Both trail is reasonably on flat ground, though it is a forest trail, it is a relaxed and easy walk; suitable for activities such photo-takings and observing the tropical wonders.

However, in rainy season the trails could be very muddy and difficult to walk during this wet season since Tawau Hills Park is a water catchments area. Beware of the leeches during wet days.

Along the trail, it is common to see many giant commercial trees such as Seraya Kuning, Selangan Batu, Belian and Keruing.

The Bukit Gelas Waterfall (Table Waterfall)

The rivers in Tawau Hills Park tumble over several attractive waterfalls.

The most attractive fall is this Bukit Gelas Waterfall (the Table Waterfall) which created a natural swimming pool.

Tawau Hills Park is a favorite picnic spot on weekends offering visitors the delights of nature -meandering streams, water falls, hot springs and jungle trails. Hostels are available at minimal charge. Visitors can also camp here.

The undergrowth of the forest and the trunks and boughs of trees comprise a bewildering number of species of fungi and lichens and other grasses, herbs and shrubs.

The roar from the cascading waters drowned out the incessant screeches of the cicadas and other insects as well as the haunting croaks of the forest frogs.

Following a northerly direction the trail skirts along the western banks of Sungei Tawau till the 1.7 kilometer mark.

The left branch paves the way for another 800 meters to the waterfall. After fording the Tawau River and thereafter taking a short ascent up the foothills of Bukit Gelas........there the treasure is.
