Delonix Regia tree with an umbrella crown of red flowers at Tawau
Sport Complex.
The tree has several common names such as :
1- Flame of the forest,
2- Flame tree,
3- Royal poinciana,
4- Peacock flower (in India)
5- Flamboyant tree.
Austrian botanist, Wenzel Bojer, discovered this species of tree in Madagascar
in 1820. Wenzel introduced Flame of the Forest to Mauritius before
it has been grown throughout the tropics.
This native tree of Madagascar is now almost extinct in the wild in
Madagascar.
But this species of tree is growing very well in many places outside
Madagascar.
