This new record Dolomedes species is semi aquatic like other species in the same genus.

No scientific name yet. It was given temporary the code Fig Garden as it was found in a Fig Garden in Tawau Town.
It was seen waiting on a dried leave floating on a water hole in Tawau Fig Garden II. When disturbed, it slip under the part of the dried leave that was under the water.

Aquatic adaptations
Dolomedes spiders are covered with velvety hairs (soft hairs) which are hydrophobic (疏水性).
The hydrophobic hairs creat surface tension that allow Dolomedes spiders to stand and run on the water.
They can also immerge beneath the water with air trapped around the body hairs and forms a thin film over the whole surface of the body and legs.

Dolomedes breathe with book lungs beneath their abdomens, and these open into the air film, allowing the spiders to breathe while submerged. The trapped air makes them very buoyant and even if they do not hold onto a rock or a plant stem they float to the surface where they pop onto the surface film, completely dry.
