Diploma in Early Childhood Education


Children Learning and Development have been the focus of the Early Childhood Education (ECE). ECE provides the basic education and prepares children for primary school education. The ECE programme at OUM will contribute to the all-rounded development of ECE teachers by updating their knowledge, skills and attitude as ECE professionals.

The programme is tailor-designed for Early Childhood teachers to ensure that they have the necessary and enriched knowledge about child development and assessment, curriculum content, children arts and music, learning and pedagogy, health and safety, and ECE-center management skills.
 

Child development milestone is a skill your child acquires within a specific time frame. You have to realize that the development of your child will be different from other children as he will develop at his own pace.

From birth to 6 months, your child development will include following objects visually,

1) recognizes voices of different people
2) explores his/her own hands, feet and mouth
3) able to sit with support
4) able to grasp and making sounds to express emotions.

To enhance your child's development as this stage, parents are encourage to introduce to the child bright color, bold pattern books, cuddling and musical toys and rattles.

Upon "graduating" from his/her initial 6 months, your child will further develop his/her skills such as crawling, standing or walking with support. Your child will be able to use his/her thumb and index finger to pick up object. It will also be at this part of the child development that they like to pick up, open, push, pull and throw small objects around them. Be prepared for the mess! It is best, at this stage, to introduce to your child push-pull toys, stacking toys and activity cloth books.

When your little darling turns 1, he/she will begin to be able to comprehend and follow instructions, to categorize and recognize different sizes, shapes and colors. Blocks and stacking toys, stuffed toys and shape sorters are suitable toys to enhance and further develop such skills.

Children learn and experience in the first five years of life. This ia a period of significant advances in their mental, physical, emotional and social development thank make an impression for a lifetime.

Find employment as an early childhood educator, early years resource worker, home child-care provider, educational assistant, book sales representative, children's programming director, nursery teacher, camp counsellor/director or parent educator.

Duration of Study

It takes 4 academic years (12 semesters) to complete the programme. The maximum duration for completion is 7 academic years (21 semesters).
