Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM)Kolej Universiti Islam Malaysia (KUIM) upgraded to Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) in 2007

Islamic University College of Malaysia (KUIM) was approved by the Board of Ministers on June 11, 1997 and was gazette on March 12, 1998. Its first academic session commenced in 2000/2001. It is the 12th public university in Malaysia. The initial three faculties were faculty of Syariah and Judiciary, faculty of Dakwah and Islamic Management, and Faculty of Quran and Sunnah Studies. Faculty of Economics and Muamalat started in 2002/2003, while Faculty of Science and Technology and Faculty of Medicine and Health Science began in 2004/2005. Tamhidi Center for pre-medical students also started in the same session. A new Faculty of Prime Languages will commence its session in 2005/2006. Its temporary campus is at Menara A, Persiaran MPAJ, Pandan Indah, 55100 Kuala Lumpur. By the end of 2005, KUIM will be moving to its new permanent campus at Nilai. Faculty of Science and Technology and the Tamhidi Center are temporarily situated in Bangi.

KUIM, being new, has yet to establish its research and development (R&D) activities with respect to products. Most of its R&D activities are non-science bases. As for science, KUIM has just started to do research part but the development part is yet to come. While the commercial part will follow in the future. Nevertheless, KUIM has come out with several scientific research projects based on the Islamic interest that will produce commercial products, InsyaAllah. Thus, this will lead KUIM to be a modern and well known Islamic University in R&D.
