Variety Cooking in Asia - Documentary on Cocoa Foods
The Hong Kong-based Asia TV crew was in Tawau on June 20 to 26, 2005 for shooting on Hoko products and "Cocoa specialty set cuisine"  on cocoa-based food delicacies.

This travel documentary series Variety Cooking in Asia, involved Tawau, among other  18-series documentary including Malacca, Penang, Ipoh and Kuala Lumpur.  ATV Hong Kong also made similar series in Holland, Europe, USA, Canada and Penama, with Kenya, Alaska, France and New Zealand.

The series featured  cocoa-based food delicacies created by Hotel Emas. Such as :

1) crystal prawns with chocolate mayonnaise source,
2) crispy cocoa chicken,
3) cocoa sotong roll,
4) cocoa fish slice,
5) cocoa fried noodle,
6) cocoa beef
7) cocoa fried rice.
8) cocoa snacks - Hoko marble ball, chocolate prawn roll, chocolate ondei-ondei, and fresh cocoa juice

Teck Guan Cocoa Museum (Majulah Cocoa Factory) is the only destination in Tawau selected by the Hong Kong ATV's series on Variety Cooking in Asia


The conducive climatic conditions and many other natural attributes like the rich, fertile volcanic soil that have made Tawau most suitable place for cocoa cultivation. Teck Guan Group of Companies is one of the Malaysian  main cocoa producers with biggest acreage of cocoa plantation in Malaysia.  Since the founding of this museum and factory by the late founder, Datuk Seri Panglima Hong Teck Guan in the 1970's. Majuiah Koko- which is synonymous with high quality cocoa products" has gained world class reputation and recognition.


Opposit the museum is the factory processing raw cocoa seed to cocoa powder.  The cocoa processing plant is one of the largest in Southeast Asia and the largest in East Malaysia. This powder is ingredient for Bakery Products, Dairy Products, Chocolate Milk, Chocolate Ice Cream, Coating, Cocoa Mix, Cocoa Drink, Cocoa Dessert, Cocoa Bath...


In Teck Guan Cocoa Museum you can learn all about cocoa processing and end-product manufacturing. At the museum, visitors will also be shown how to prepare snacks using cocoa products. Here, one learn how cocoa butter is produced and exported to world famous chocolatiers including the company that produces Godiva chocolates.

Cocoa doesn’t contain caffeine and in ancient times, only the well-heeled high society can consumed products made from cocoa but today, chocolate is for everyone.  When you take a bite of expensive chocolates imported from the oversea, the cocoa butter in you mouth actually comes from Tawau.

Founded in 1950 by Mr. Hong Teck Guan,  MAJULAH did not become such a fine cocoa powder brand overnight. It took a century of hard work and practice to develop into a top renowned international brand name.

Majulah Koko is known for superior quality cocoa powder and cocoa butter under the brand "MAJULAH" and as a supplier to world renowned cocoa end users such as Nestle & Ovaltine.

How To Get To Cocoa Museum

From Kota Kinabalu City, Tawau is accessible by road via the East-West and East Coast Highways. The journey should take about 8 hours. For a speedier alternative, the flight from Kota Kinabalu to Tawau takes only 45 minutes.

From Kuala Lumpur, tourists can hop on AirAsia flights which flies to Tawau twice a day. The familiariasation trip to Tawau was organized by AirAsia and Sabah Tourism.

From Tawau Town, visitors can take a taxi to cocoa museum which is a 10- minutes ride, and is located 3 km away at Tanjung Batu Laut (right inside MAJULAH KOKO).
