Empress Center is considered the Heart of Tawau Town because this old building located right at the center point of 3 frontiers : Tawau Lama, Fajar and Sabindo.

This center point of Tawau, Empress Center,  marked the dividing lines between the Old Tawau, the New Tawau (Fajar) and the Developing Tawau (Sabindo which is facing the sea).

It is this center point of Tawau that  Municipal Council of Tawau erected the Status of National Flower as a land mark of Tawau. See photos below.

Fajar is the banking commercial area where major banks  HSBC, MAYBANK, PUBLIC BANK, CIMB, BANK ISLAM are located.

The Tawau District Court is also situated here.  Malaysia Airlines Office is situated here too.

Empress Theater had been turned into shops that sell clothes and bags.
