CM to launch new Kubah Ria Complex this Friday Wednesday, 14 November 2012 11:03 | Written by | | | KUCHING: The Chief Minister of Sarawak, Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud will be launching the new Kubah Ria Complex at 10.00am on 16 November 2012, Friday. The development of Kubah Ria started as a vision of the State Government, particularly the Chief Minister of Sarawak to help and assist the local entrepreneurs through the development of suitable business premises, in the hope of encouraging them to succeed in business and entrepreneurship. Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) was given the task to build the original Medan Niaga Kubah Ria at Jalan Matang, Kuching in 1983.It comprised 59 units of lock-up shops and became a popular eatery outlet in Kuching due to its strategic location. With the leases to all stalls expiring in 2009, a redevelopment of the area was deemed necessary. The redevelopment took into account the desire by SEDC to continue the business activities at the site and the need to transform the area to be consistent with the fast pace development of Kuching City. With the old site deemed unsuitable due to the rapid development, the Government identified a new site - opposite the old site for the redevelopment of Kubah Ria.The funding for the redevelopment of Kubah Ria was obtained from the then Ministry of Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development (MECD) for implementation under the Ninth Malaysia Plan (RMKe-9). The Earth Breaking Ceremony was officiated by the Chief Minister and site works commenced on 2 September 2008.The project was completed on 31 July 2010 at a total cost of RM 22,383,000. Managed by Sara Urusharta Sdn.Bhd., a wholly owned subsidiary of SEDC, the new Kompleks Kubah Ria consists of : 1) 47 units of shop lots,
The
project represents a major transformation from the old to the new
while still retaining the beauty of Sarawak through its scenic view
and spacious design.
“A hub for local foods under one roof” Within the vicinity of Kubah Ria are the almost completed Benteng, another food court and nearby is the Medan Niaga Satok, a popular Sunday open air Market recently moved from it's old premis at Satok Road. This will make the area a central location for food stalls, fish and vegetable Market. Thus it showcases what Kuching can offer to all. FRIDAY, JUNE 08, 2012 |
