The teaching and learning process is conducted through lectures, tutorials and hands-on work including individual and group projects. Assessment is through course work and written examinations that are held at the end of each semester. Besides these, each student is required to undergo industrial training (for one semester). Industrial training helps expose students to the real working environment and provide opportunities for students to relate theoretical knowledge to practical understanding. The training normally encompasses one semester, usually in Semester 3 at the Certificate Level and Semester 4 at the Diploma Level.
Quality education and training is ensured through commitment and total
involvement of highly-qualified and well-trained teams of lecturers.

Malaysia premier polytechnics in 2010 :
1) Politeknik Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah in Shah Alam
(Selangor),
2) Politeknik Ungku Omar in Ipoh (Perak)
3) Politeknik Johor Baru (Johor).
The three premier polytechnics are said to focus on technical programmes
in niche fields which address the needs of the services industry.
Many courses which cater to the needs of the services industry are in
the pipeline and the ministry is targeting a polytechnic enrolment of
119, 000 students by 2015 through this initiative.
To upgrade the quality of polytechnics, diploma and higher diploma
programmes will be given priority and certificate-level courses will no
longer be offered from the July 2010 academic intake.
The ministry has targeted an increase of diploma students to 87, 440 in
2012 a 30% increase from the 2009 figure of 60, 840.
34% of polytechnic teaching staff should receive at least a basic degree
in their field of specialization.
