Scholarships are awarded to poor but promising pupils in the primary and secondary schools, as well as to students in higher educational institutions. Besides the scholarships awarded by the Ministry of Education, other government and semi government organisations as well as private corporations also provide scholarships for higher education


The Scholarship Division of the Ministry of Higher Education provides financial assistance at all levels of higher education. It ensures that all students and officers have access to financial aid, in the form of study loans and scholarships for various stages of higher education. Other than PTPTN Study Loans and the Yayasan TAR Scholarship, the financial aid provided by MOHE are:

Type 1 - Matriculation Studies Scholarship (Bantuan Kewangan Untuk Program Bertaraf Matrikulasi)

1)  Award amount includes tuition fees, accommodation allowances, pocket money and airfare (for students living in Sabah/Sarawak)

2)  This scholarship is awarded to students enrolled in matriculation programmes of public universities as below:

3 Asasi Pengajian Islam UM (Nilam Puri)
4 Tahmidi Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia

Type 2 - Study Loan Fund (Tabung Pinjaman Pelajaran)

1 This is offered to students taking the Certificate course (for a duration of four semesters or two years) at Polytechnics and Community Colleges that are managed by the Department of Polytechnic and Community College Education
2 Amount of loan is RM1,500 per semester for four semesters excluding administration / service charge. Total loan shall be RM6,000 for two years
3 Candidates must have SPM qualifications or equivalent and must be enrolled at Semester 1 or 2 only
4 The income of an applicant's family is not taken into account
5 Candidates must sign an agreement which will require a guarantor
6 Repayment of the loan is six months after the candidate's successful completion of the programme

Type 3 - Federal Training Award Scheme (Skim Hadiali Latilian Persekutuan)

1 Offered to Academic staff of Polytechnics and Community Colleges
2 Awarded for long term programmes at Master's and Ph.D levels
3 The field of study will be based on the requirements of the Division of Training and Careers of the Department of Polytechnics and Community College Education

          Applicant who has received an unconditional offer of admission in any certificate course in local the Polytechnic

          Applicant who has been accepted by the local university for First degree in Education Discipline/ Education integrated courses 

          Applicant who has not been offered any scholarship by the MOE or any other agencies

How To Apply


          Application form is available  in all the local Polytechnics. Submission should be made through the Principal of the respective Polytechnic.

          Application should be made during January session and June session based on 2 intakes a year by the Jabatan Pendidikan Teknikal, Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia.


          There is a section on application for education sponsorship/loan in the Degree Courses Application Form (Borang Permohonan Kursus Ijazah) distributed by the UPU.  Applicants who wish to enroll into Education integrated courses may apply for the scholarship/loan sponsored by MOE. Application can be done by filling up the section on Sponsorship (Tajaan) in the Permohonana Kemasukan Ke ITP form. 

          After the completion of student's registrations, the University will list the name of the applicants. From the list, the Scholarship Department will then process the loan application according to the information given by the applicant in the Borang Kemasukan Ke IPT.
